ROMANCE DAY PART ONE: LIFE IS A BEACH!!!

This past Sunday we had the really great pleasure of photographing Amanda and Scott's Romance Day in Miami, Florida. So you're asking, what is a Romance Day and should we get the children out of the room? No, they can stay! A Romance Day is when we go out with a couple who are in love and photograph them in areas that they enjoy being in. We try and showcase their personalities, their physical beauty and most importantly, their love for each other.

Depending on the couple this can be a difficult endeavor. Being photographed is not always easy for some people, especially men. We are not only photographing the couple but asking them to forget we are there and to let their feelings for each other come to the surface; to look at each other with the love they feel for one another; to touch each other with love and to enjoy each other with love, but not get us arrested!!!  This is even harder for some people and again even more so for men.

This day we were in for a treat! Amanda and Scott are very much in love and neither has difficulty sharing their love with each other. They both have a great sense of humor which is important, especially if you're spending the day with Phyllis and me. It is a very important part of being a photographer, in this setting, to try and make the couple relax and have fun. In some of the images you will see over the next few days, there were lots of people really close to where we were shooting; so close that at times they had to make sure not to step on them! At one point as I was photographing, I heard another camera clicking behind me to my left and I knew Phyllis was behind me to the right. I quickly looked to the left and found a gentlemen with a camera taking pictures of Amanda and Scott. He'd just decided to poach our scene lol.  We all thought it was pretty funny and Amanda and Scott can be seen laughing in these images, which really worked and all credit goes to the scene poacher lol!

Today's images are from the beginning of the day. The first place we stopped was a beach on Biscayne Island.  Being in Florida, I had pre-visualized a scene with Amanda and Scott walking on a lonely beach holding hands. Well, as most of you know Sunday was Mother's Day. I guess that on Mother's Day in Florida, many people celebrate it at the beach. We had as much of a chance of finding solitude as we did finding David Caruso without his sunglasses.

I took that shot off my list of images for that day and I started looking for other possible locations on this beach. I think we found some spots that worked well and then we started getting ready to move on to our next location. As we were walking up the beach,  I realized that there was a shot I wanted.

Let me explain that I had asked Amanda and Scott to dress pretty formal; not wedding gown and tux formal but pretty close. Amanda wore a really beautiful blue dress and Scott wore a white long sleeve dress shirt, dress pants and shoes. As we were walking, I noticed people looking at us, well mostly them. Everybody else was in bathing attire and here were these two very good looking people all dressed for a party. I really liked that contrast and thought it would work in an image.

I asked Amanda and Scott to walk with me to the shoreline. Once there, I asked them to walk a couple of hundred feet away from Phyllis and me up the beach. Once there, I told them to walk back towards us, not looking at us but just enjoying the day and each other. Phyllis and I were both shooting using two different lens; my trusty 70-200 and our 17-55 lens. I really liked what we captured and hope you all like them, (especially Amanda and Scott).

I will not be posting tomorrow as we are leaving soon for a return trip to St. Augustine and the Alligator Farm; looking to get some images of newly born birds. We will be back home tomorrow late and I doubt I will have time or energy to post. We'll be back to it on Thursday.  Enjoy the images!

The light is always the most important part of photography and on a really sunny day, the best light is in shade right next to the light. The shade they are in is actually caused by the lighthouse.

Truly candid moments before we started walking, I saw them just having fun and quickly grabbed these two images.

Hubby and myself have a similar day booked with a photographer in June; though he has the added complication of our dog being included!
Hope he does as well as you guys have with these.

What a lovely couple. And you shot them so at ease with themselves. Can feel their love for each other by just looking at these pictures. Oh how I wish I was in love!!!! LOL!

I loved the beach pictures the best! The contrast of the swimmers against their formal attire makes the photos spectacular! You really tend to focus on them as a couple :) Thanks for sharing!

you got me dreaming about something like this jim... i know that amanda and scott are the main focus here though :P... as i wrote you earlier...i think you know which shots i like best ;)...the unrehearsed... it's something that comes out spontaneously when you're in love i guess (you tell me :P)... i particularly like the photos at the end ;, the focus stays on them amidst the crowd... bellissima coppia ;)...awaiting for the rest of your series :P...
